The aim of the inventory is to enhance both the overview of and insight into existing networks, thereby providing greater understanding of the opportunities to strengthen collaboration in knowledge and innovation development.

Desk research, interviews, and working sessions

This overview of knowledge and innovation networks in the food sector was compiled through desk research, interviews, and working sessions between November 3 and December 4, 2025.

Through desk research, we mapped food-related knowledge and innovation networks both within and outside the Netherlands. We used publicly available information published by the networks themselves, such as annual reports, programs, agendas, and other documentation.

Within RVO and LVVN, there is substantial knowledge about knowledge and food networks, including insights into knowledge exchange – what works and does not work in practice, and why. In two workshop sessions, we expanded the list of networks and explored what defines a knowledge and innovation network, as well as the characteristics of an effective network.

The inventory was further supplemented with interviews with five individuals who possess both a broad overview and in-depth knowledge of the networks within the current Knowledge and Innovation Agenda (KIA) Agriculture, Water, and Food – Mission 4: Food.
