Requirements and regulations for novel foods

An article has been published in Voeding Nu about the requirements and regulations for novel foods (in Dutch). Our novel food colleagues Marjolein van der Spiegel and José van den Driessche collaborated with four other novel food consultants on this article. The publication describes when foods and ingredients are considered novel foods, the requirements for authorisation, the risk assessment procedure and data protection.

Our novel food team supports innovative companies in determining whether a product falls under the novel food regulation, in compiling and submitting novel food dossiers, and during the process after submission at the EC and EFSA. The strategy for compiling a dossier is different for each novel food and we help companies in making decisions on for example which data should be collected, how to conduct specific studies, and how to protect data.
