Value chain analysis and recommendations for the cocoa sector

The Dutch Banking Sector IMVO Covenant (DBA) is an agreement between a coalition of banks, the Dutch Banking Association (NVB), trade unions, civil society organisations and the government. Together they are committed to improving human rights compliance. The DBA asked us to support the Cocoa Working Group in conducting a value chain analysis for the cocoa sector and shaping recommendations.

Human rights in focus

We facilitated several working sessions to build consensus on the results and key conclusions of the value chain analysis. We delivered the final version of the report, including recommendations for the DBA.

Through the value chain analysis, potential areas of cooperation were identified to address human rights issues in the cocoa sector. These are issues that an individual bank cannot resolve on its own. The DBA Cocoa Working Group is currently implementing the recommendations that followed from the value chain analysis.
