Gastronomic Forum Barcelona 2023
One thing can be said with certainty about Schuttelaar & Partners’ Brussels agri-food team: they are all passionate about food. Pep Bantulà Pañella, Junior Consultant, is no exception.
Focusing on sustainable agri-food systems at a European and local level, he finds opportunities to link his current work with his roots: the agri-food world of Spain’s Catalan region. Remaining involved in the local ecosystem, Pep was part of the Gastronomic Forum Barcelona on 6-8 November 2023. Featuring over 350 exhibiting companies, this is the biggest gastronomic food event in the region. This year’s edition focused on gastronomy’s commitment to sustainability and the preservation of biodiversity.
Pep chaired the Metropolitan Market space, which explored the current state and future of sustainable gastronomy and biodiversity. Over the course of 3 days the Market offered a variety of activities aimed at connecting actors across the food chain– from farm to kitchen– to discuss sustainability and the impact of climate change.
The space was organised by the Arèa Metropolitana de Barcelona, Ajuntament de Barcelona and Mercabarna, with the collaboration of Slow Food BCN and Oficina Conjunta d’Alimentació Sostenible (OCAS).
Next year, Schuttelaar & Partners will be returning to Barcelona for the 2024 edition of Synergy Days. There we will be connecting the digital innovators of the European agri-food sector for a second consecutive year. Until then, we will be drawing inspiration from the diverse examples of local and national projects on food innovation and sustainability showcased during the Forum.
