ChatGPT: An Asset to Our Work?

By now, everyone is familiar with ChatGPT. However, whether and how we incorporate it into our workflow remains uncertain. To address this, we conducted a session for all our employees. During this session, our colleague, Pawel Debik, delved into the potential benefits and pitfalls of using ChatGPT. Following his introduction, it was up to the attendees to share their insights: does ChatGPT simplify their tasks? How do they envision the future of AI in their work? One thing everyone agreed upon is that AI is here to stay in our daily lives and professions.

What Can ChatGPT Do?

Upon initial observation, ChatGPT appears to be a valuable tool for consultancy and communication agencies like ours. It can aid in eliminating errors and oversights, and potentially expedite certain processes. Some of our team members have already started experimenting with this chatbot. Nevertheless, it's vital to meticulously review ChatGPT's outputs since there's still room for error.

What Can't ChatGPT Do?

While ChatGPT might often seem impressive, it doesn’t genuinely comprehend user queries. It simply performs an intricate probability calculation to predict the most statistically likely response to a user's prompt.

On occasions, ChatGPT might present inaccurate information. Moreover, it might not possess knowledge on events or content post-2021. In such instances, it typically issues a disclaimer, cautioning that the given response might be unreliable. Thus, it's imperative to exercise caution and not accept its answers without scrutiny.

Aware of the Risks

The potential for inaccuracies poses a significant risk when utilizing ChatGPT professionally. Prevailing uncertainties surrounding copyright and privacy also render it a challenging tool to adopt. Nevertheless, there’s a consensus that, when used judiciously, ChatGPT can be a pivotal addition to our toolkit.

How Does Our B Corp Stance Align with ChatGPT's Immense Energy Consumption?

While ChatGPT crafts eloquent and grammatically accurate sentences—often leading to coherent narratives—it does so at a significant energy cost. In 2022, the service used up energy equivalent to that consumed by 100 humans throughout their lifetimes. Such consumption is staggering. However, juxtaposing this energy use with potential time savings is challenging. This complexity hinders our ability to definitively assess the tool's negative repercussions and its effect on our operations. For now, we remain committed to experimenting with ChatGPT and eagerly await future developments.
