ESG & Sustainability

Double materiality analysis

The double materiality analysis forms the foundation of a future-proof ESG strategy. In line with the CSRD and the underlying ESRS standard, we work with you to identify which sustainability issues are truly material – both in terms of their impact on people, the environment and good governance, and in terms of the financial opportunities and risks they present for the company. This helps determine which issues a company should focus on most.

What we do

We assist companies in conducting a dual materiality analysis. From performing a benchmark and involving stakeholders to sharply prioritising the topics and audit-proof documentation: we ensure a clear, widely supported and compliant process. Always striking the right balance between the requirements and where the company currently stands.

The problem we solve

Many organisations struggle to translate CSRD requirements into practice. Which ESG themes are relevant? What impact, risks and opportunities does the company have? How do you gather input from stakeholders and ensure that the results are supported within the organisation? And how do you ensure that the process meets audit requirements? Our approach is always tailor-made, offering structure, substantive expertise and assurance.

Our approach

Our proven methodology consists of five steps:

  • Preliminary research: Analysis of relevant themes based on ESRS, sector-specific standards and benchmarks.
  • Stakeholder validation: Coordination of the list of possible topics with internal and external stakeholders.
  • From long list to short list: For an initial selection of topics, we use a customised questionnaire that provides insight into the relevant impacts, risks and opportunities for the company. In a workshop, we prioritise the list of topics with internal experts to ensure support and strategic anchoring. This is followed by additional validation with external stakeholders to check whether all relevant topics have been selected.
  • Audit trail: Careful documentation of all steps, fully aligned with the requirements of the auditor.

The impact

  • A clear, substantiated list of material impacts, risks and opportunities.
  • A solid basis for ESG strategy, reporting and policy choices.
  • Insight into priority issues within and outside the organisation.
  • Full compliance with CSRD requirements and support with audits.
