Livestream – Blockchain technology for improvement livelihoods of smallholder farmers
Blockchain technology can improve livelihoods of smallholder farmers in developing countries and boost transparency in international value chains. This is the outcome of a successful pilot, where blockchain technology has been applied to the organic rice chain in Cambodia. Interested in the results? Participate in the Youtube Livestream on the 23rd of June 2020 from 16.00-16.30 CET.
The BlocRice pilot was supported by the Oxfam Innovation Fund. The pilot from 2018-19 is currently being scaled up and the living income gap for participating farmers has recently been determined. The aim is to reach more rice farmers, higher volumes of rice and establish a direct link with consumers. Results from the pilot show that blockchain technology can deliver trustworthy data and social monitoring.
But how does this work in practice? How can blockchain help to ensure that farmers obtain a living income? Keynote speakers include Rogier Verschoor, Private Sector Advisor at Oxfam Novib and Joost Schuttelaar, Managing Partner Digital at Schuttelaar & Partners provide answers to these questions during the Livestream.
