Annejet has a Master’s degree in International Business Management from Groningen and Paris Universities, and has nearly seven years of experience working on corporate responsibility and agricultural sustainability. At Schuttelaar & Partners, Annejet specialises in strategic communications advice, process management and stakeholder dialogue, and she has profound knowledge of sustainability challenges in global agricultural commodity markets. She has also held coordinating roles in different multi-stakeholder partnerships aimed at achieving sustainability.

Jup van ‘t Veld

Nutrition & Health, Sustainability

Jup has a Master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Utrecht, and has previously worked for the largest trade union in The Netherlands (FNV Bondgenoten) and the Netherlands Nutrition Centre. He has also held several positions within environmental groups and green politics in The Netherlands. At Schuttelaar & Partners, Jup manages the Brussels office and takes the lead on international work focusing on health, nutrition and sustainability. He is secretary general of the international Choices Programme – a science-based, front-of-pack positive nutrition logo – which is managed from the Brussels office. His specific expertise lies in process management, public affairs, issue and crisis management, and corporate social responsibility.

Dieter Cools

Nutrition & Health

Dieter studied Nutrition and Dietetics at Leuven University College, and Nutrition and Health at Wageningen University and Research Centre. At Schuttelaar & Partners he helps advance the Choices Programme internationally and in Belgium – his native country, by managing the administration, internal and external communication, scientific support, and global lobbying for the programme. His areas of competence lie in project coordination and process management.

Ilse Straver

Nutrition & Health, Crisis Communications

Ilse studied Health and Nutrition at Wageningen University, with a major in health promotion, and has worked for Schuttelaar & Partners since April 2003. Within the food and nutrition unit, she has set up a team of consultants to advise clients on healthy lifestyles and help them to improve their products and services, as well implement health promoting policies. She is experienced in stakeholder communication, and specialises in issue and crisis management. She is member of the S&P crisis team and contact person for the European Crisis Management Partnership (ECMP).

Nathalie de Borchgrave d’Altena

Technology & Society, Content & Copywriting

Nathalie has a Master’s degree in Political Science/International Relations from the University of Louvain, and over five years of communications experience in the press, NGO and business sectors. As a native English speaker, she is the main content and copywriter for English communication materials developed at Schuttelaar & Partners, and provides research for clients in the areas of sustainability, food and health, agriculture and bio- and nanotechnologies. Her talent for wordsmithing and lateral thinking bring forth a creative dimension in her work.

Attilio Caligiani

European Affairs

Attilio holds a MA and BA cum laude in International Relations and European Affairs from the Catholic University of Milan. Attilio has an in-depth understanding of European energy, environmental and climate change policies, has investigated EU and national funding opportunities and has a strong network of contacts in the European institutions. In his current position Attilio provides strategic oversight to shape and implement advocacy programs on behalf of the clients and further develop the organization’s network of contacts with EU-policymakers. Attilio is an Italian citizen fluent in English, German and French.

Edwin Hecker

Technology & Society

Edwin studied Business Management and Animal Breeding at the University of Wageningen, and went on to obtain the NIMA B (Marketing) Diploma. In 1997 he was appointed Chairman of the Codex Committee on Food Additives and Contaminants, a position he held until 2003. Edwin was appointed Deputy Director of the Department of Veterinary and Food Affairs in 2000, and ad Director of the Minister’s office in 2003.

At Schuttelaar & Partners, Edwin is on the Board of Directors and responsible for the Technology & Society Unit. Edwin is also a member of the Groupe de Bruges, an independent think tank on European agriculture and rural development.

Rutger Schilpzand

Food and Nutrition, Stakeholder Dialogue

A nutritionist by training, Rutger Schilpzand focuses on international food and nutrition issues. He is co-author of a 2004 book exploring the possibilities of stakeholder dialogue on long-term, strategic issues.

Rutger has a long history in communications and NGO activities. He was a science writer and worked with Oxfam Novib and consumer organizations. In 1986, he founded the Clean Clothes Campaign. Currently, he is president and co-initiator of the School feeding Initiative Ghana-Netherlands (SIGN). He is an advisor to Wageningen University on its nutrition curriculum.

Marcel Schuttelaar

Founder & CEO

Trained in Human Nutrition at Wageningen University and Research Centre, Marcel Schuttelaar is managing director of Schuttelaar & Partners. At the firm, he focuses on strategic consulting and issue & crisis management.

Before launching Schuttelaar & Partners, Marcel Schuttelaar managed public campaigns for Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Vereniging Milieudefensie) and Consumentenbond, the largest Dutch consumer group. He helped launch a non-profit organisation focusing on consumers and biotechnology, as well as Max Havelaar, a leading certifier of international fair trade.

Ronald Hiel

Sustainability

At Schuttelaar & Partners, Ronald Hiel is partner and manager of the Sustainable Agriculture business unit. His primary role is to provide companies working with strategic and PR advice pertaining to sustainability issues. Furthermore, he is also active in various international multi-stakeholder initiatives dealing with sustainable production chains, such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil and the Utz Responsible Cocoa Project. Ronald studied agricultural economy at Wageningen University, with a specialization in marketing. Before joining Schuttelaar & Partners in 2006, he was managing director of the Product Board for Margarine, Fats and Oils and Chairman of the Margarine Fats and Oils Education Center. As chairman of the Education Center, he was responsible for several PR campaigns focusing on health aspects of margarines and other oil and fat products. Within the Product Board, he initiated several industry initiatives, including the campaign to promote healthier frying fats in the professional market. He also initiated the Task Force for Responsible Fats, with the aim of stimulating innovation so as to reduce the amount of trans-fat and saturated fat in a variety of food applications.
